About Your Guide
Jeff Thompson
River Rat Fly Co was founded by Jeff Thompson, an Alberta outdoorsman with a deep passion for wild places, moving water, and the pursuit of trout in remote landscapes. Jeff has spent years exploring the rivers and backcountry of Alberta and the Canadian Rockies, often hiking well beyond established trails in search of untouched water and fish that rarely see anglers.
With a background in military service and a career in public safety, Jeff brings discipline, professionalism, and strong situational awareness to every trip. Clients can feel confident knowing they are fishing with a guide who values safety, preparation, and respect for the environment.
In addition to guiding, Jeff is also a competitive ice climber representing Canada in international competition. His dedication to training, resilience, and pushing personal limits carries over into how he approaches guiding and outdoor exploration.
